I grew up with a pencil in my hand, and don’t remember a time that I wasn’t drawing or scribbling. But I also always had a love for computers, working on DOS based PCs and eventually getting my first taste of Photoshop in 1995.
I graduated high school with the top mark in my Art class in Matric, and intended to pursue a Fine Art degree – but my high school Art teacher convinced me to study Graphic Design instead (he was right! Shout out to Mr. Botham). I received my BA degree in Visual Communication Design from the University of Stellenbosch in 2006 and after graduating I worked for my family’s business, designing logos and print material for the property industry.
On the side I taught myself how to make websites, first dabbling in clunky html and flash dinosaurs and eventually teaching myself how to customise self-hosted WordPress websites. In 2009 I started a blog – which unintentionally became wildly successful.
I have been a freelance graphic designer (and part-time blogger) since 2011, and love working with small businesses to help them with their logo design and branding; and also making simple, easy to use and nice looking websites. I dabble in photography and social media management too. I live in Cape Town with my husband and 2 kids.
